Spanish utility Endesa has revealed that it has invested E5.5 million in modernizing and enlarging its Entrerrios transformer substation in Pedrola, Zaragoza. The company is also planning to invest E130 million in 2007 on improvement plans in a large number of towns in the three Aragonese provinces in Spain.

Endesa said that the projects form part of its new electricity infrastructure program, which is intended to improve the quality of its service and meet the growing demand for electricity in its markets.

According to Endesa, the recently finished Entrerrios project will help to improve the quality of service to over 25,000 industrial and residential customers in the Ribera Alta del Ebro region of Spain. The improvements will also offer greater distribution infrastructure capacity along the Ebro corridor, Endesa said.

The Entrerrios facility is a primary substation with a transformation ratio of 220/45KW and up to 180MVA capacity. Endesa said that the site’s protection, control and remote control equipment is aimed at maximizing its efficiency.

Endesa has also modernized the electricity networks which converge at this node, which will ensure the supply to companies in the region, and will anticipate the market growth which would mean increasing supplies to the region.
