Snet, Endesa’s French subsidiary, has taken the first steps towards the construction of two combined cycle gas turbines in France with an installed capacity of 400 MW each, by opening the tender offer period for choosing the contractor to build these plants.

The two plants are slated to come on stream in the first half of 2009.

The two power stations, in which €400 million will be invested, and which will be built in the north-east of France, on land at the Emile Huchet plant and will increase the French subsidiary’s current installed capacity by 30%.

At the same time, a 35km gas pipeline will be built for €24 million, linking GRT Gaz’s main gas pipeline to the plant. Snet and Gaz de France Transport have signed a contract to build this gas pipeline, which will come on stream in December 2008.
