The project will have 20 turbines, each with a capacity of 2MW to 3MW, representing a total of 40MW to 50MW.
The municipalities concerned have announced their wish to participate financially in this Electrabel-initiated wind energy project. The participation of the municipalities is subject to the approval of their respective municipal councils.
Electrabel said that the agreement demonstrates the willingness of the parties to support the development of sustainable electricity generation. The company believes that the project will consolidate its position as the largest producer of renewable energy in Belgium.
The turbines will reportedly enter operation from 2010 onwards. Once the wind farm is complete, it will produce between 100,000MWh and 140,000MWh per year. In addition, Electrabel claims that it will cut CO2 emissions by around 60,000 tonnes annually.
