Edmunds.com, an automotive website, has installed a ChargePoint Networked charging station for electric vehicles (EVs) from Coulomb Technologies, a provider of EV charging station infrastructure, at its headquarters in Santa Monica, California for the testing of EVs and other plug-in cars.

The installation of the ChargePoint station done by Coulomb distributor Clean Fuel Connection, will enable Edmunds.com to track charging behavior, measure energy used, determine greenhouse gas savings and then sort, export and report such charging data for specific test vehicles.

All drivers of plug-in vehicles can have access to the ChargePoint network by making a toll free call to the 24/7 number on each charging station or signing up without a subscription via contactless credit cards.

ChargePoint Network provides information on the charging status by SMS text or email notification, location of unoccupied charging stations via smart phones and includes smart grid integration with built-in utility grade metering, time of use pricing and demand response control.

Edmunds senior editor of GreenCarAdvisor.com John O’Dell said that consumers worldwide are already looking to Edmunds.com for detailed information and reviews on the Chevrolet Volt, the Nissan Leaf, the Coda EV, the MINI E and others.

“We are committed to testing EVs and other plug-ins, and we needed a charger that enables us to easily and safely charge them while collecting as much charging data as possible,” O’Dell said.
