EDF Energies Nouvelles has commenced construction on the 110.7MW, third phase of the C-Power offshore wind farm in Belgium.

Once completed in the middle of 2014, the wind farm will have a combined installed capacity to 325.2MW.

The farm is located 30 km off the coast of Zeebrugge on Thorntonbank and is owned by the C-Power consortium from
Belgium with EDF Energies Nouvelles holding a 9.1% interest.

EDF will now undertake the installation of 18 wind turbines at the farm, each with a capacity of 6.15MW and supplied by REPower.

EDF Energies Nouvelles chief executive officer Antoine Cahuzac noted that the project was now in its final stage of its development.

"Taking part in the project has enabled us to acquire expertise and significant experience in the development and construction of offshore wind farms and EDF Energies Nouvelles can draw on this to see its various future projects in
France and the United Kingdom through to fruition", commented Cahuzac.

The project has been developed under three phases, the first of which had a 30MW capacity and was commissioned in June 2009 while the second was completed in December 2012.
