The 2,258 MW Catawba station is situated in Lake Wylie in York county, around 20 miles southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina. The station has two 1,129 MW units 1 and 2, which have entered service in 1985 and 1986.
The unit 1 at the station continued to operate at full power.
One MW powers around 700 homes in the Carolinas.
The NRC has renewed the original 40-year operating license of the Catawba units for additional 20 years until 2043, in 2003.
