Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group (B&W TSG), a provider of clean energy technology and services, has received a contract extension for waste cleanup work at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project (AMWTP) near Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The contract with B&W TSG, a team member of Bechtel BWXT Idaho, which manages and operates AMWTP, has been extended for a six-month period, through 31 March 2011, with an option for another extension through 30 September 2011.

AMWTP, which is responsible for the shipment of the transuranic waste from the DOE’s Idaho site for final disposal at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico, is claimed to have shipped more than 34,000 cubic meters of transuranic waste from Idaho to WIPP for disposal.

B&W TSG president Cochran said that B&W is appreciative of the DOE’s continued confidence in B&W TSG to effectively execute the important work at this project and the company is committed to continue working safely as it makes further progress in cleaning up the Idaho site.
