Reports from the Czech Republic suggest that a major power failure that occurred on July 25, in the middle of the recent heatwave, could cost network operator CEPS thousands of crowns in extra costs.

CEPS, the Czech power grid operator, says that while the recent problems will not plunge it into the red, it will have an impact on its finances later in the year after it was forced to buy in power from neighboring countries, the CTK news agency reports.

The CTK reports suggests that at one stage on July 25, some 15 power generation units were inoperable in the Czech Republic, exacerbating an already tight power supply situation caused by the hot weather and planned plant maintenance.
