Electricity consumption has increased by 4% in the first six months, and 33,451GWh of power consumed in the Czech Republic over the period is an absolute record, Jitka Matiskova, a spokeswoman for the national grid operator CEPS, told the Lidove Noviny newspaper.

The current heatwave means that local authorities are predicting more records will be broken in July, with higher living standards and rapid economic development in the country leading to greater demand for air conditioning and refrigeration equipment in summertime, the CTK news agency reports.
