Contact Energy, a diversified and integrated energy company, has filed resource consent applications with the Tararua District Council for its 177MW Waitahora wind farm located southeast of Dannevirke, New Zealand.

Located on part of the Puketoi Range, the Waitahora wind farm will contain up to 65 turbines and will generate enough renewable electricity to power around 86,000 homes per year.

David Baldwin, CEO of Contact Energy, said: The site has a good wind resource and is very remote, minimizing the visual impact of the project. This is a very good wind farm project that will provide clean, renewable electricity for current and future generations, as well as local benefits for the area.
