The Vietnam Import-Export Construction Corporation (Vinaconex) has begun construction of the Ngoi Phat hydroelectric project in the mountainous province of Lao Cai. The plant will be rated at 54MW and requires total investment capital of US$62M.
In its first phase, scheduled for completion in 2006, Vinaconex will build a 28MW four-generator plant, a dam, 2km of tunnel and other works. In the second phase, due for completion in 2007, the company will raise the project’s generating capacity to 54MW.
