Construction of a hydro power project has begun in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, a relatively underdeveloped region in southwest China.

The project, being developed jointly by the local government of Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County and a Hong Kong company, is located on the Upper Dishui river. A feasibility study has shown that the site has the potential to generate 78.5MW of hydro power.

During the first stage of the construction, a dam is to be built at a cost of 245M yuan and will be completed in two and half years, at which time the 3x9MW power plant will be installed. The plant is expected to produce 87M kWh annually.
