A group led by Bechtel National and Lockheed Martin Services will be the operating and management contractor for the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge and the Pantex Plant near Amarillo.
The contract includes management of the construction project to build the new uranium processing facility at the Y-12 facility, and the option of managing the Savannah River Tritium Operations at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina.
ATK Launch Systems and SOC are also part of the CNS. The five-year contract will start 1 May 2013, and could be extended for an additional five years.
NNSA administrator Thomas D’Agostino said that the latest contract will have lasting impact on the nuclear security agency for years to come.
"Our nuclear production capabilities are critical to our national security, and this contract puts NNSA in a position to improve mission delivery by generating significant savings that will be reinvested to improve safety, security, quality, and infrastructure," D’Agostino added.
Commenting on the capabilities of CNS, NNSA principal deputy administrator Neile Miller said, "Their focus on continuously improving while driving for cost efficiencies helps us plan for the future while ensuring that we’re delivering on our commitments to our partners."
