Large and medium sized hydro power projects, with a total installed capacity of 5314MW, will help China achieve its target of annually producing more than 5000MW of hydro power for the first time. Preliminary official estimates state that 24 generating units will be put into operation by the end of 1999 at hydro power stations including Ertan, Xiaolangdi, Wanjiazai and Jiangya.
Fifteen units (3547.5MW) were installed in 1998 at Lijiaxia, Baozhushi, Fengmen, Tianshenqiao phase 1, Ertan, Wanjiazai and phase 2 of Guan-zhou pumped storage station.
