Earlier in June, Alstom won a E400m contract from Centrica to build the 885MW GT26-based combined-cycle power plant at Langage. Under the contract, two GT26-gas turbines, one heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), a single steam turbine and a large air-cooled condenser, were to be supplied by Alstom.
Centrica said that the Langage project, which was acquired by it in August 2004, is one of only three large scale power station developments in the UK which aligned with its strategy of generating a growing proportion of its own electricity for British Gas customers.
Centrica has progressed the project since acquisition by signing agreements with Transco and National Grid Company for the necessary infrastructure connections to be developed. Reportedly, the plant was expected to start generating in early 2009, but problems with internal pipework led to delay in production.
