Catalytica Energy Systems has shipped its first two full-sized Xonon catalyst modules to GE Power Systems. The pre-commercial modules will be tested in 11 MW GE10 gas turbines which, are expected to incorporate the Catalytica cool combustion system.

The two companies have been working to commercialise the integrated system. Preliminary orders for six GE10 turbines incorporating the Xonon modules have already been placed. They are due to enter commercial service in the latter half of 2002 in a number of well populated areas where low emission generators would be required.. Catalytica’s Xonon system employs a catalytic combustion process to reduce the emission of pollutants, particularly nitrogen oxides.
