The district has awarded additional orders of A$350,000 ($326,851) to Cardia Bioplastics for the supply of waste management products by the end of October 2014.

Under the new contracts, Cardia will supply its biohybrid kitchen waste bags to the individual households of the region.

Cardia said its renewable products were validated in the Jiangsu Province Testing Labs and met all the requirements.

Cardia biohybrid kitchen waste bags feature biohybrid technology which utilizes less oil and delivers a lower carbon footprint.

The company has recently expanded its production capability with a new factory in Nanjing.

The new factory has increased biohybrid and compostable bag making capacity to 100 million bags a year.

Cardia’s products have been trailed for one year in Nanjing’s several city districts and the company has initially secured a A$250,000 ($233,465) order in February 2014.

Cardia Bioplastics global director of sales and head of China operations Jacky Chen said: "The increased order validates our product’s quality and sustainability benefits, as well as our strong Government relationships with China City Councils.

"We look forward to further working with China City Councils towards managing household waste sustainably and reducing their environmental footprint. Our recent move to larger production facilities is certainly reaping rewards."
