The Union Cabinet on Economic Affairs in India has given the green light to the US$0.12B Pagladiya dam project which has been put forward by the Brahmaputra Board in Nalabari district of Assam.

When completed the project will provide irrigation to 54,126ha of land in Nalabari district and protect nearly 40,000ha of land from flood and erosion. The plant will also generate 3MW of power.

The dam will be 26m high and have a reservoir capacity of 278M m3. The main canal will be 66.2Km long and the project will irrigate land to a maximum distance of 102km. The project will be implemented by the Brahmaputra Board and is expected to be completed by 2007. and is expected to be completed by 2007.
