The daily reported that the project to join the two countries’ gas grids is part of Hungarian oil and gas major MOL’s initiative to connect gas distribution networks across the region.

The linking of the two gas distribution networks will reportedly require an 8km gas pipeline to link the systems between Rousse, Bulgaria, and Giurgiu, Romania.

An estimated 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year is expected to be transported between the two systems, which is equivalent to 9% of the annual Romanian gas consumption.
