BroadStar Wind Systems has announced the introduction of its AeroCam wind turbine for use in any environment including urban areas compared to conventional wind power systems which need to be located offshore or in remote rural areas.

The AeroCam with its parallel rotor blades can reportedly be manufactured, transported, installed and maintained at a lower cost.

The new design is based on principles first established by the French aeronautical engineer Georges Darrieus, who invented a wind turbine capable of operating from any direction and under adverse weather conditions.

BroadStar has said that the major improvement in the design is the ability to automatically and interactively adjust the pitch or angle of attack of the aerodynamic blades as the turbine rotates.

BroadStar claims that its AeroCam wind turbine delivers a 250kW machine for $250,000 and is reportedly the first such system to break through the $1 per watt cost barrier.
