Broadcom Corporation (Broadcom), a US based provider of semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, said that its NetXtreme BCM5761 gigabit Ethernet (GbE) controller has been selected by Dell, Inc. (Dell) and Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) for their new enterprise-class personal computers. The new controller features TruManage technology, which enables new enterprise-class PCs with energy-efficient, cost effective client manageability.
The Broadcom BCM5761 controller integrates the new open client manageability standards and advanced power management features that enable enterprise-class PCs to be fully and securely managed remotely, while maintaining compliance with the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Energy Star program.
Managing PC systems around the world, in multi-vendor, distributed enterprise environments, creates a challenge for current IT administrators as they are required to manage a disparate set of tools and applications. The tools are mainly proprietary or specialized, and must be adapted specifically to each individual corporation resulting in an increased total cost of ownership (TCO) and a lack of efficiency and consistency when managing these PC systems.
The Broadcom BCM5761 GbE controller with TruManage technology supports desktop and mobile architecture for system hardware (DASH) and the platform management component intercommunication (PMCI) protocols that provide original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers, such as Dell and HP, with capabilities to manage PCs from a variety of manufacturers across multiple locations using a common framework and tools. It also allows software updates and security patches to be deployed during ‘off-peak’ hours to minimize user downtime while providing support for common features such as remote power, boot control and system status monitoring.
