The strength of UK hydro, and opportunities available for a stronger and united industry, were emphasised by Kieron Hanson, the new chairman of the British Hydropower Association (BHA). Discussions took place at this year’s annual general meeting which was held on 24 January in Penrith, UK.

The meeting reviewed the launch of a new level to the export initia- tive that combines the BHA Export Council with members of the Hydro Advisory Panel, a subsection of the Power Sector Working Group which gives hydro access to the echelons of government. Three concurrent workshops were also held at the meeting which provided delegates with the opportunity to examine and discuss commercial, environmental and export issues, concentrating on climate change, embedded generation, the water bill, best practice guides, export concerns and actions.
