Alstom is to provide operation and maintenance services to Votorantim Energia’s 160MW Pedra do Cavalo hydro power plant in Brazil.
As the project is to use water from the Empresa Bahiana de Agua e Saneamento (EMBASA) dam, Alstom will also take control of the spillway to maintain water supply to the city of Salvador and to protect downstream areas from flooding.
Pedra do Cavalo, situated on the Paraguaçu river in the state of Bahia is to begin generating electricity in October this year, when it will form part of the local integrated power supply system.
