Canadian electricity producer Boralex and Germany-based Q-Cells will begin the construction of the Avignonet-Lauragais solar energy park with a generating capacity of approximately 4.5MW in southern France this week.

Q-Cells’ French subsidiary is responsible for the engineering, construction and maintenance of the facility, which is expected to start operation in May 2011.

Equipped with Q-Cells PV panels and cells, the solar park developed by the Boralex will be located on land adjacent to the Avignonet-Lauragais wind farm and required an investment of about EUR14.6m.

Electricity generated from the power project will be sold to French utility Electricite de France under a 20-year contract.
