Canadian company Maxim has entered into an agreement with ORS Organic Waste Recycling Stade GmbH of Hamburg to jointly develop the country’s largest combined biomass gasification composting and power generation project at Stade. maxim will initially own a 25 per cent interest in ORS with an option to increase to 50 per cent in the next four years.

Total investment required is CAN$8.5 million, for the compost treatment, anaerobic digestion system and cogeneration power system. It will be built by Cimbia Bioplan AS and will generate 1.4 MW, all to be sold under a 20 year fixed price contract to a local utility under German Green Energy law. Scheduled start up is end-2001.
