Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned a 660MW supercricital thermal unit at the Mouda Super Thermal Power Station (STPS), located in Mouda in Nagpur district in the state of Maharashtra.
BHEL received an order for the supply, installation and commissioning of the two coal-based thermal units of 660MW from NTPC.
According to BHEL, this is the fourth unit that it has commissioned at Mouda, where a unit of 660MW and two units of 500MW supplied by the company are already in operation.
BHEL said that the key equipment for the project were manufactured at its centres in cities including Haridwar, Trichy, Hyderabad, Ranipet and Bengaluru and the plant construction task was undertaken by the company’s power sector division for the western part of the country.
The state-owned engineering and manufacturing company claims that it has played a crucial role in the development of the Maharashtra’s power sector by supplying and executing more than 17GW of power-generating sets in the state so far.
BHEL has also been a strategic and long-standing partner to NTPC, another state-owned power-generating company. So far, BHEL has supplied over 30GW of coal-based power plants to NTPC and its joint ventures.
A few days ago, Bhel commenced commercial operations of its first 800MW unit at the 2x800MW Yeramarus thermal power station located in Raichur district of Karnataka.
Bhel said that the move marks its foray into the field of power generation as a project developer.
The Yeramarus power plant is being developed by Raichur Power Corporation (RPCL), a joint venture of Karnataka Power (KPCL) and Bhel.
