The wind farm, which is expected to have a capital cost of around $400m, will include around 30 6MW turbines.

The project will be built in an area of around 20 square nautical miles, according to the company.

Beothuk said that the wind farm will be close to company’s proposed Corner Brook manufacturing facilities and Port Harmon service port.

Beothuk energy president and CEO Kirby Mercer said the company looks forward to working with all interest groups and regulatory agencies to develop new green industry.

"With political will and regional cooperation, we expect to create up to 600 direct jobs in western NL, and there will be substantial business opportunities for local companies at all tiers of the supply chain," Mercer added.
