Canadian based Ballard Generation Systems has shipped a 250kW fuel cell for field testing at the Nishimachi Sewage Treatment Centre in Tomakomai, Japan. The unit is the first to exploit gas from an anaerobic digester. The waste gas contains methane which can be processed using the reforming technology built into the company’s natural gas fuel cell trial units Four more of Ballard’s proton exchange membrane fuel cells are being prepared for shipment to test sites in 2001 and 2002.
