Upgrade of the first unit is scheduled to be completed in December 2015 and the second in June 2016.

Alstom will also implement auxiliary devices, such as air preheaters, steam turbine bypass, safety valves and fan systems. A steam pipe stress and dynamic analysis will be undertaken for the extension of its life cycle.

Alstom Argentina country president Ernesto Garberoglio said: "It is a real recognition for Alstom to be seen as a reliable partner for unit life time extension on the thermal market."

Located in Bahia Blanca, Piedra Buena thermal power plant has a capacity of 620MW and forms 2% of the energy installed capacity in Argentina.

The two boilers can be fed with both natural gas and fuel oil.

The natural gas is supplied through a 22km gas pipeline, while two fuel oil tanks have a storage capacity of 60,000 cubic meters.
