Alstom Hydro has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with RusHydro, Russia’s largest power generation company, to participate in the further development of hydropower in the country.

The MoU includes a decision by both parties to consider the possibilities of co-operation in the reconstruction and refurbishment of several operating Russian hydropower plants, including pumped storage plants, as well as optimisation and maintenance.

Specifically, as a potential first case, alstom and RusHydro have agreed to consider how they could co-operate on the modernisation of the Kubanski cascade hydropower complex in the south of Russia and the new pumped storage plant (2 x 70MW) at Zelenchuk. In addition, the two companies are in outline discussions over ways to co-operate in hydropower research and development.
