The project will boost the capacity of power evacuation systems and improve the power situation in the region.

Under the contracts, Alstom will build the 220 / 132 / 33kV turnkey substations as well as the two units of associated 132kV bay extension in Supaul.

The company will provide control and relay panel based on the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, for 16 units of 220kV bays, 39 units of 132kV bays plus 52 units of 33kV bays and other auxiliary equipment. The substations will have potential to be further upgraded to 400kV in future.

The company’s manufacturing facilities will supply all the major equipment. Alstom T&D India managing director Rathin Basu said: "Bihar is one of the rapidly growing states in India.
