Renewable energy sources will include photovoltaics and future off-shore wind farms resources.

Under the new project, RTE will use the Alstom’s e-terraplatform to manage the network operation challenges created by variable photovoltaic capacity, which is currently at 2GW installed capacity, on top of the 6.5GW of wind power capacity in France.

The e-terraplatform technology is expected to provide the real-time information to assess the impacts of the distributed renewable energy sources in the grid.

The project is scheduled to be operational in July this year.

Currently, the inserting wind production in the electrical network (IPES) platform, based on Alstom’s e-terraplatform technology monitors, estimates and forecasts the energy generated from wind resources in real-time at various voltage levels.

The existing IPES platform was delivered in 2009.
