Alstom and BrightSource Energy have entered into a business partnership agreement to build solar thermal power plants particularly in the Mediterranean ring and Africa.

This agreement follows Alstom’s $55m investment in BrightSource Energy in May this year.

The partnership brings together Alstom’s experience in the field of turnkey power plants and key power equipment such as steam turbines with BrightSource Energy’s LPT solar thermal technology.

Alstom Power president Philippe Joubert said that this partnership is a further step in Alstom’s commitment to solar thermal power, alongside its strong renewable power portfolio in hydro and wind power.

BrightSource Energy CEO John Woolard said that this agreement reflects the growing global demand for highly efficient and environmentally-responsible solar power plants.
