The wind farms, which are situated in Lake Benton of Minnesota, Storm Lake of Iowa, Condon of Oregon, have the capacity to produce power totaling around 231MW.
Allete Clean Energy president Eric Norberg said the company can establish core infrastructure that will allow for expansion to other wind and clean energy projects, by acquiring the wind farms.
"It’s a significant and diverse first step in the implementation of new energy-centric projects," Norberg added.
In November 2013, Allete also signed an optional deal with AES to take over a 101MW Armenia Mountain farm near the Pennsylvania-New York border, which became operational in 2009.
