Albania is trying to attract foreign investors and donors in an effort to revive its electricity supply network and improve its economy.

The country wants to build seven hydro power stations along the river Vjosa which has the second greatest energy potential of Albania’s rivers, after the river Drin. The Ministry of Public Economy and Privatisation said that projects are ready but funds and investments have not yet been found.

Albania also wants to build two new hydro power stations along the Drin, in addition to the three existing stations that produce 80% of Albania’s electricity supply. Two more hydro power stations are to be built on other rivers at Kalivac and Banja but the Ministry is still trying to lure investors to undertake these projects.
