AFD, African Development Bank, Clean Technology Fund (CTF), European Investment Bank (EIB), KfW and the World Bank are the co-financers for this project.

When operational, the plant is likely to generate 516GWh of electricity annually, which is enough to power around 200,000 homes.

Eskom CEO Brian Dames said that CSP plant is one of the company’s first utility scale projects outside the existing hydro portfolio that will help reduce its carbon footprint.

In addition, AFD had also signed a €100m loan facility agreement with Eskom for Sere wind farm near Vredendal in the Western Cape in 2011.
