American Electric Power (AEP) and NextEra Energy Resources, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy, have opened the 120MW Bluff Point Wind Energy Center in Indiana.

The Bluff Point Wind Energy Center, which has been built with an investment of $200m, features 57 GE wind turbines.

Affiliates of NextEra Energy Resources will own and operator the wind farm, which will serve customers of Appalachian Power.

Appalachian Power supplies energy to one million customers in Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee.

Indiana Michigan Power, an AEP company, regulatory and external affairs vice president said: "AEP and Appalachian Power are pleased to partner with NextEra Energy Resources on this beneficial project that helps modernize and diversify the power generation fleet and provides low-cost, clean energy to customers.”

During the construction phase this year, the Bluff Point Wind Energy Center offered a major   economic boost for Jay and Randolph counties by creating nearly 200 jobs.

The project is expected to offer over $30m in new tax revenue to the county governments over its first 30 years of operations.

NextEra Energy Resources renewable development and origination vice president John DiDonato said: "This is our company's first project in Indiana and we look forward to making more investments here.

"We are grateful for our partnership with AEP, and for the tremendous support this project has received from the governor's office and of course the people of Jay and Randolph counties, who stand to benefit from it for years to come."
