The plan changes next go before the board of commissioners for final approval.
Don Gillispie, CEO of AEHI, said: “This step is a major hurdle for AEHI’s proposed nuclear plant. Once the plan is signed by the Elmore County Commissioners they will have the ability to immediately approve our rezone application.
“The application was submitted a long time ago and has already been through the public hearing process.”
AEHI currently maintains two potential nuclear sites in Idaho. The second in Payette County is also working through the process of a plan change.
The company said that the project will provide about 5,000 jobs through construction and more than 1,000 jobs during operations. During the construction phase alone, the project is estimated to increase Idaho’s GDP by $5.3bn, of which $4.8bn will flow directly through the county.
