Abengoa has signed an agreement with Ghana Water Limited to construct a desalination plant in the town of Nungua, south eastern Ghana.

The plant, which will require an investment of $115m, will have a capacity to produce 60,000 cubic meters of water per day.

The new plant will be developed under a design, build, operate and maintain, own and possibly transfer (format.

The agreement also includes the development of the necessary infrastructure for the seawater intake, the application of the ultra-filtration pre-treatment system using proprietary technology, desalination using reverse osmosis, and the use of efficient energy recovery solutions, among others.

Abengoa has agreed to operate the desalination plant for 25 years from the date it comes into operation.
