Swiss power engineering major ABB has won orders worth $74 million to provide power equipment for JSW Energy to maximize the reliability and efficiency of a new power plant in Ratnagiri, in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

ABB will provide systems to manage all the plant’s electrical equipment, as well as gas-insulated switchgear and generator transformers.

ABB’s electrical balance of plant solution will optimize and integrate the plant’s shunt reactors, bus ducts, control and relay panels, switchgear, other auxiliary systems and four 20kV generator circuit breakers.

The company claims that the compact gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation will occupy just one-fifth of the land needed for a conventional substation, while its protective metal casing increases safety and reliability, and reduces the amount of maintenance required.

ABB will also supply transformers, designed and manufactured for reliability, reduced life-cycle costs and minimized losses.

Peter Leupp, head of ABB’s power systems division, said: We are proud of our long-standing partnership with the JSW Group and intend to building on the relationship with this new order. ABB’s power products and systems will ensure safe and reliable operation of the plant while optimizing energy consumption of the plant.
