The planned facility will integrate a clean biomass-fired power station and combined-cycle gas turbine plant, and will replace an existing waste incinerator.

ABB will supply integrated electrical and process control systems for the entire plant, which is expected to be commissioned in 2012.

The company will also be responsible for the high-voltage power grid connection to the capital city of Bern.

With an annual incineration capacity of 110,000 metric tons of waste and 112,000 metric tons of wood, the facility will generate about 250,000MWh of thermal energy and 338,000MWh of electricity per year.
