Through the order, ABB will supply and install substations to enhance transmission capacity to provide electricity to more than 250,000 households.
PGCB, Bangladesh’s national transmission utility placed the order to expand and strengthen country’s power infrastructure and to meet the growing demand for electricity.
As part of the project, ABB will build two new substations and upgrade two existing substations. The order was placed in the first quarter of 2017.
With the addition of new substations and upgrades, the transmission capacity is expected to increase by around 535MW. The project will contribute to the Bangladesh government's goal to provide electricity to 165 million of its population by 2021.
The deal will see ABB building and commissioning one 132kV/33kV air insulated switchgear substation in Kachua, one 132kV/33kV gas insulated switchgear substation in Kalurghat and upgrade two existing 132kV/33kV AIS substations into GIS substations in the Comilla and Modhunaghat areas.
ABB will also offer substation automation systems and fiber optic communications. The design, engineering, system integration and supply of key products will be executed by ABB’s operations in India.
