The $8bn project includes an iron ore mine and a processing plant.

Under the agreement, ABB will provide automation and electrical equipment, including shiftable conveyor belts for transportation of iron ore will be transported from the mine to the processing plant.

Once implemented on a large scale, the belts will eliminate the need of trucks thus saving on operating costs and carbon emissions.

ABB process automation division head Veli-Matti Reinikkala said, "The project will allow Vale to increase production by approximately 90 million tons, while substantially reducing emissions and improving operational efficiency and process safety."

Vale expects to deliver the mine project in 2016 after the implementation license is issued in 2013.
