The company will design, supply, install and commission three series capacitors – two at Seymour Arm and one at Ruby Creek in British Columbia.

ABB head of Power Systems Division Brice Koch said, "These installations will enhance transmission capacity and provide more clean hydropower to consumers in the region."

Installation at Ruby Creek is under the Interior to Lower Mainland Transmission Project, wherein a new 500kV line is being constructed. This is to help homes and businesses in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island to continue receiving clean and reliable energy.

The Ruby Creek capacitor is expected to be operational in 2015.

While the Seymour Arm series capacitor will be operational much earlier towards the end of 2013, and is expected to enable more power flow without the need for constructing an additional transmission line.
