Mayfair Gold has reached key agreements with certain engineering firms to progress the pre-feasibility study (PFS) for its Fenn-Gib Gold Project, situated in Northeastern Ontario, Canada.
This study is projected to wrap up by the close of 2025. It will evaluate the design, costs, and economic prospects of operating an open pit mine and gold processing facility with a capacity of 4,800 tonnes per day (tpd).
The PFS will also detail the infrastructure required to bring the project into production.
The decision to focus on a 4,800tpd capacity is said to allow Mayfair Gold to prioritise higher-grade surface mineralisation at Fenn-Gib while reducing initial capital expenditure.
This strategy is anticipated to shorten construction timelines, thus reducing exposure to inflation and potential delays compared to larger-scale developments. It also provides a streamlined pathway for provincial permitting, supporting Mayfair Gold’s goal of becoming a Canadian gold producer.
Leading the PFS is Ausenco Engineering Canada, which will concentrate on designing the process plant and conducting metallurgical testing.
AGP Mining Consultants has been tasked with mine planning and mineral reserve estimates. North Bay’s Knight Piésold will handle tailings and water management.
Terracon Geotechnique and Environmental Applications Group are responsible for site geotechnical and environmental assessments, respectively.
Additional components of the project include TBT Engineering managing the Highway 101 diversion, while TWD Engineering will oversee site power supply.
Mayfair Gold CEO Nick Campbell said: “We have engaged with an outstanding group of consultants with established track records of achievement in the mining sector to support the Mayfair team and advance the Pre-Feasibility Study for the Fenn-Gib Gold Project near Timmins, Ontario.
“These firms, along with the Mayfair team, key equipment manufacturers and construction contractors, will be vital in advancing the Project designs with their expertise to help position Fenn-Gib as a shovel-ready project on an accelerated timeline.”
In parallel with technical advancements, Mayfair Gold said that it is committed to engaging constructively with local communities including Matheson, Timmins, and regional Indigenous groups. The project’s proximity to the Apitipi Anicinapek Nation necessitates focused collaboration with this community, ensuring that development aligns with sustainable practices and considers local ecosystems.
The Fenn-Gib project covers an area of around 4,800ha within Canada’s prolific Abitibi Gold Belt, with more than 75% remaining unexplored.
Located near Highway 101 in Guibord and Munro Townships, approximately 80km east of Timmins, it is positioned within one of Canada’s foremost gold mining regions. The Timmins gold camp, part of this area, has historically produced over 80 million ounces of gold during the past century.
