For the project, NEC will supply KCE with the battery storage solution along with the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services from a New York firm.

According to KCE, the KCE NY 1 will play a significant role in the next generation of New York electric grid and will enhance its performance and reliability with reduced carbon emissions. .

KCE’s NY 1 project supports Governor Cuomo’s commitment of 1,500MW of energy storage for New York State by 2025.

It is stated that energy storage can help in achieving the Clean Energy Standard goal of getting 50% of New York’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030, while ensuring that carbon emissions are reduced by 40% compared to 1990 levels.

Key Capture Energy CEO Jeff Bishop said: “After careful review and months of evaluation and discussion, we are pleased to select NEC as a partner for the first project of this size in New York State. NEC brings a stellar team, a top-rated technology solution, and a proven commitment to using local labor when possible.

“We are pleased to be moving our headquarters to Albany, New York and are fully committed to support the Governor’s vision for an aggressive Clean Energy Standard, as well as job growth in the State of New York. We look forward to our partnership with NEC, where we will work together to bring local jobs and energy storage solutions to New York State.”

Governor Cuomo in his 2018 State of State Address stated that the energy storage in New York can provide nearly $2bn in gross benefits and offset more than one million metric tons of CO2 emissions, by 2030. It could also help in providing employment opportunities for nearly 30,000.

NEC Energy Solutions CEO Steve Fludder said: “We are pleased to bring our expertise and innovative energy enterprise platforms to ensure a successful debut project for Key Capture Energy. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship as KCE’s business expands across New York and the US.

“We anticipate this will be the first of many energy storage projects with KCE, who are poised to deliver the value which flexible energy storage provides.”
