The $600m power plant has been constructed by Gemma under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services contract with NTE Energy affiliate NTE Ohio.

Gemma said that the power project is the sister project to the 475MW Kings Mountain Energy Center located in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. The Kings Mountain power plant is planned for completion later this year.

Gemma CEO William Griffin Jr. said: “This achievement is a testament to the dedicated and talented women and men of Gemma Power Systems who worked tirelessly to deliver a complex project that exceeded all performance guarantees, while overcoming the challenges of a very tight schedule and the impact of severe weather.

“We congratulate NTE on the commercial operation of its first advanced technology combined cycle power project.”

The Middletown Energy Center project, which has employed approximately 600 craft workers at the construction peak phase, will employ approximately 25 permanent workers.

The project comprises an advanced Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas M501GAC combustion turbine generator, a Vogt Power International supplementary-fired heat recovery steam generator and a Toshiba America Energy Systems steam turbine generator.

The Middletown Energy Center is equipped to supply electricity required to power approximately 400,000 homes.

Earlier this year, Gemma Power Systems has been awarded an EPC services contract by NTE Carolinas II, an affiliate of NTE Energy, to construct 475MW gas-fired power plant in Rockingham County, North Carolina.

The NTE Reidsville project will feature an advanced class Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas M501GAC combustion turbine generator, a Vogt Power International supplementary-fired heat recovery steam generator and a Toshiba America Energy Systems steam turbine generator.

Gemma Power Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Argan, provides solutions for the power and renewable energy industry.
