Worley has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services contract from Umicore’s business unit Rechargeable Battery Materials Canada, Inc. (Umicore) for its battery materials manufacturing plant in Ontario, Canada.

Umicore’s plant will produce both cathode active materials and their precursor materials (pCAM) which are key components in rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles. Umicore’s battery materials plant is expected to be the first of its kind in North America, thereby playing an important role in building an end-to-end electric vehicle supply chain. By 2030, Umicore expects the plant to produce battery materials
supporting approximately one million electric vehicles a year.

This award represents our strength in delivering large-scale projects that we are undertaking in this rapidly accelerating growth area. Worley will provide the EPCM services through Worley’s offices in Canada, with support from teams in Latin America and Global Integrated Delivery (GID) in India.

“We are pleased to be working with Umicore on this project, where we are delivering services supporting the battery materials manufacturing plant, consistent with our purpose of delivering a more sustainable world,” said Chris Ashton, Chief Executive Officer of Worley.
