US-based engineering services firm Bechtel has been selected as the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPC) contractor by Port Arthur LNG, an affiliate of Sempra LNG & Midstream, for the proposed Port Arthur liquefaction project in Jefferson County, Texas, US.

Under the contract, Bechtel will undertake the engineering, execution planning and related activities required to prepare, negotiate and finalize an EPC contract for the project in accordance with the planned development schedule.
The proposed Port Arthur natural gas liquefaction and export terminal will comprise two natural gas liquefaction trains which will enable the long-term sale of approximately 11 million tons per annum (Mtpa) of LNG.
The project also includes construction of feed gas pre-treatment facilities; natural gas liquids and refrigerant storage; up to three LNG storage tanks; two marine berths and associated facilities.
Sempra Energy president and CEO Joseph Householder said: “Port Arthur LNG is one of three major LNG export projects that are an important part of our growth platform.
“Bechtel brings to our project outstanding management experience and commitment to safety we expect on all of our projects.”
The Port Arthur project development, however, is subject to obtaining customer commitments, completing the required commercial agreements; securing all necessary permits and approvals, reaching a final investment decision, among others.
Sempra LNG & Midstream president Octavio Simoes said: “We are confident Bechtel’s construction and management team will help us achieve a world-class LNG export project at Port Arthur and meet the global demand for LNG.”
Bechtel LNG general manager Darren Mort said: “We look forward to partnering with Sempra LNG & Midstream to successfully develop the Port Arthur LNG facility, from planning through project startup.”
The project is being developed jointly by Sempra LNG & Midstream and Woodside. The partners are also jointly marketing LNG under a project development agreement signed earlier.
