Worley has been engaged by Glenfarne Alaska LNG, a subsidiary of Glenfarne Group, to provide engineering and delivery services for the Alaska LNG Pipeline project.
This appointment aims to support the financial investment decision (FID) expected in late 2025.
The Alaska LNG development includes a proposed 1,300km natural gas pipeline extending from the North Slope to near Anchorage, featuring a gas treatment plant, an LNG import terminal, and an LNG export facility.
This infrastructure is designed to transport sufficient natural gas to meet Alaska’s domestic needs while supplying the planned 20 million tonnes per annum export facility.
Worley will build on existing engineering work and deliver comprehensive design and cost estimates to aid the FID process.
Additionally, Worley has been named the lead engineering firm for the Cook Inlet Gateway LNG import terminal and will serve as project delivery advisor for Glenfarne across its Alaska LNG portfolio.
Worley CEO Chris Ashton said: “We are proud to support Glenfarne in progressing this strategically significant energy infrastructure. Our history in Alaska spans more than 60 years, and this project aligns with our deep LNG expertise and full project delivery capability.
“We look forward to helping Glenfarne move towards FID and improve energy security for Alaska and the world.”
\The core of the Alaska LNG Project is the pipeline with a 42” diameter that includes an offshore segment crossing Cook Inlet. The pipeline is set to operate at 2,075 psig with multiple compressor stations facilitating the movement of natural gas from the North Slope to Southcentral Alaska.
Interconnection points along the route will enable in-state gas distribution, providing Alaskans with a reliable supply for residential and industrial use.
The projected output from the Prudhoe Bay and Point Thomson fields on average will be approximately 3.5 billion cubic feet of gas daily. An estimated 75% will be sourced from Prudhoe Bay.
The integrated natural gas project aims to transport gas to Nikiski for international export, encouraging further oil and gas exploration within Alaska.
Following definitive agreements earlier this year between Glenfarne Alaska LNG and the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation (AGDC), the former will take majority ownership of Alaska LNG. Glenfarne will also lead its development through to operation.
AGDC retains a 25% stake in 8 Star Alaska, the holding company overseeing all project assets. Upon successful FID approval, the State of Alaska will maintain a 25% share in 8 Star Alaska with options to invest further in its subprojects.
